With safety as a main focus for the new A6 design, Audi engineers worked diligently to improve the roof strength as well as improved safety designs in the body to make the A6 as safe as possible.
The improvements paid off with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety naming the 2012 Audi A6 the 2011 Top Safety Pick Award.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick Awards is awarded for good ratings for protection during crashes of all impacts (front, side, rollover, and rear). Additionally, new regulations have been added for the award that requires vehicles to pass a roof strength test as well as having electronic stability control as a standard feature.
To achieve a good rating on the roof strength test, a vehicle must be able to withstand a force greater than four times the car’s weight. The Audi A6 achieved 4.9 times its weight. By comparison, federal government regulations require vehicles to withstand 1.5 times its weight.
The IIHS is one of the top awards for safety in the automobile industry. Audi owners can feel comfortable every time they climb into their A6 knowing that they are protected by the industry’s best safety features and design.
The 2012 Audi A6 is available now at South Hills Audi.
