Time to Suit Up, Audi

With the release of Iron Man 3 in just a few short months (May 3), we have to admit we are as giddy as schoolgirls. Why? Because some of our own are starring in the movie! And by that we mean our cars. Once again Tony Stark will be tearing through the streets of an ever crime-infested city in an Audi.

Audi has placed a lot of its hottest cars in the first two Iron Man movies. This included the R8 supercar and its convertible version, the A8 stately sedan, S5 sportscar, and the Q7 crossover. This time, Stark will be seen in the electric version of the R8, the e-tron. His counterpart, Pepper Potts will be driving an Audi S7 Sportback.

Audi RS4 Avants Fight to the Death… With Paintballs

Let’s face it; sometimes car driving has to be more about fun than simply getting from point A to point B. We all know that when you were little you pretended all of your toy cars were fighting machines, running over your sister’s dolls, destroying platoons of army men and magically driving straight up the walls. There are a few of us out there that never lose that imagination, and we see an example of that here.

While it’s definitely not factory standard to attach a paintball gun to the front of your Audi, these weaponized vehicles sparked our interest as soon as we saw them. One black car, one white car, and a whole lot of paint. We don’t want to ruin the ending, so you’ll just have to watch for yourself.

Introducing the Audi A3 e-tron Concept

There are a lot of big things in the works for Audi, but the one that all of us at South Hills Audi are really pumped about is the A3 e-tron concept, which will be revealed at the Geneva Auto Show. This luxury hybrid is the perfect blend of performance and efficiency.

While maintaining hybrid-level fuel economy (combined fuel rating of 158 mpg), the A3 e-tron (powered by a ferocious 1.4-liter turbo coupled with an electric motor) manages to get the combined power of 204 stallions, as well as maximum combined torque of 258 lb-ft. It can also launch to 62 miles an hour in 7.6 seconds and can keep skyrocketing all the way to 138 mph—something you don’t often see for a hybrid.

It’s set to be released next year, so prepare to play the waiting game for this baby. And what’s worse: it may never actually make it to South Hills Audi, as a U.S. release hasn’t been confirmed (although we all anticipate it will make the overseas trek to our American roadways). Do Car Companies Only Make Cars?

It sounds like a dumb question, but do car companies make stuff other than cars? Believe it or not, some of them do. Maybe cars get boring, or maybe they just like to mix things up! Here’s a list of a few items that Audi makes, besides high-class cars:

Audi R-18 Ultra Chair

The Audi R-18 Ultra Chair was inspired by a successful prototype of the same name. While it lacks wheels and has a top speed of 0, it is still an impressive bit of engineering. Believe it or not, the same materials used for high-speed Audi racers were used in the making of this chair. The chair, now on display at Design Miami weighs just under 5 lbs, beating out even Ikea’s minimalist folding chairs, which tip the scales at 6 lbs.

Even if your pup is not the best with a putter, he can still look the part with this teensie, tiny t-shirt. The line of pet products includes several forms of the four ring logo. Your pet can always reflect your utter loyalty to Audi in these fashions.

Audi E-Bike

Built as a single speed bicycle with an electric motor, the e-bike was tagged as a “high-end sports machine.” Who wouldn’t want to ride a bike with a “Power Wheelie” mode? Unfortunately, the Audi suffers from some of the same problems as all electric bikes and is a bit heavy. It still weighs more than 24 pounds excluding the battery and motor. 2014 Audi A8 Clean Diesel

If you love the Audi A8, but want the fuel efficiency of a diesel, 2014 will be the model year for you. Audi has just announced that the 2014 Audi A8 will have a TDI clean diesel engine paired with quattro all-wheel drive.

This will give the A8 L TDI an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 24 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined—the best fuel economy in its segment. Audi’s Piloted Parking System Receives Two US Awards

How great would it be if your car was able to find the nearest available parking space for you? That idea is destined to become a reality if you are behind the wheel of an Audi. Audi’s system for piloted parking will enable Audi cars to automatically find the nearest available parking space in the future, a technology that will save drivers both time and effort.

Popular Science magazine named the Audi piloted parking system “Product of the Future.” “The Verge,” a specialized media network, also awarded the new Audi parking system as “Best Automotive Technology” at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

This technology uses laser sensors and movement data to plan a route for an Audi inside a parking garage. Using a built-in map of the garage, the piloted parking system is able to determine which parking spaces are occupied and will direct the vehicle in an unobstructed path to the best spot. These advanced piloted parking technologies are also being tested to assist drivers in traffic jams and maneuverability as well.
